History
The JWLA has been supported by its Editor and Publisher, who has assumed all of the operating costs for editing, proofreading, production, printing, and mailing the Annual. In addition, through 2011, New York Section of National Council of Jewish Women (NCJWNY) provided office space and a location for various meetings and activities. The Annual Reading of new works, timed with the publication and release of each new issue, along with a reception for the writers and friends of Council, has been held at their offices. There have been ten such issues published. In addition, an on-going Poetry Workshop led by Henny Wenkart has been hosted at the New York Section of NCJW on a monthly basis since 1995, and is on-going.
Beginning in 2015, the JWLA began to seek and receive independent support for its efforts. We plan to fund staff and operating expenses through a blended strategy of income from subscriptions, grants, and contributions from individual donors and foundations. On-line educational and cultural activities of the Jewish Women’s Literary Annual, as well as the ability to download and reprint works from its pages, will be developed to serve our readers better and to provide additional revenue. All contributors will be listed in the Annual as Publishers, and receive special benefits that range from one or more complimentary subscriptions for institutions or friends to dinners with celebrated writers and poets.
